I'm interested in the balance and interconnectedness of all things, a principle found in nature but often forgotten in our daily routine.  In my art I explore relationships- between abstraction and realism, nature and society, male and female, flowers and leaves, and on and on and on.

Many of my recent paintings incorporate a grid, representing the structures we use to understand the world around us such as language, math, and even religion.  The grid interacts with the image.  It connecects and sections off parts of the painting.   It defines the subject and is influenced by it, shrinking where there is more visual interest and expanding over more open spaces.

I am facinated by our complete faith in these systems that are manmade and therefore fallible.  A question I often get regarding the grid is how I make the lines so perfectly straight.  It makes me smile.  They're not at all perfect.
