Meditations on place
Outdoor studies are an integral part of my creative process. They are process-based paintings in which my marks respond to the environment in which I am working. Insights gained through the creation of these abstract studies inform the energy and movement of my studio paintings.
Using these outdoor studies as a form of meditation, I approach the native landscape with open curiosity. There I encounter an exchange of energies between the myriad animals, plants, microorganisms, light, water, and soil all moving and interdependent in their march towards balance. With each mark I converse with this dynamic space; and like every good conversation, I never know at the beginning what I might learn or walk away with.
