Jessica Monroe is a contemporary painter whose work examines ecological systems, perception, and human relationship to the natural world. Her practice is grounded in long-form processes that unfold over time, emphasizing attention, care, and sustained engagement with place.

She begins her work outdoors with responsive studies made through close observation and direct encounter with landscape. These studies function as visual research, informing large-scale oil paintings built slowly in the studio through layered color, repetition, and movement. The resulting works sit between abstraction and realism, reflecting an interest in interconnection, exchange, and the lived experience of place rather than fixed representation.

Monroe’s paintings are shaped by an ongoing inquiry into how systems — ecological, cultural, and perceptual — intersect and influence one another. Her work considers how dominant worldviews have contributed to ecological fracture, while remaining grounded in relational, place-based ways of knowing that emphasize reciprocity and attention.

She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts at Falmouth University (UK), where her research explores ecological practice, long-form painting, and emerging technologies as tools for deepening relational experience rather than abstraction from land.

Monroe holds a Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern University and has continued her studies at New York University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She lives and works in South Texas.
